Tips to Make Money Online with Pinterest

With the numerous social networking sites that seem to be popping-up by the dozen, it was only a matter of time before people discovered the various ways to use these sites to their advantage…monetarily, that is. However, not all have the time required, to market via these sites as most of them involve long-winded procedures. You have to put in images, include write-ups, find and target only a certain sect of the audience…and make it all rather appealing, and interactive. As effective as it may be, some of us require simple, and fast advertising solutions.

Pinterest was initiated to cater to just such an audience. It’s a website where one can put up images/videos of their own creations, share links of interest, photos of an event they attended…anything that would be of interest to a certain sect of people from all over the world. In other words, it’s the place where individuals, having similar fascinations, converge to share information.

How is it different from every other social website, you ask? In many ways, actually

  • Pinterest is solely based on images and videos…if you don’t count the (optional) ‘one-or-2-liner’ captions, that is.
  • Here, one needn’t go in search of like-minded individuals. Pinterest is more-or-less, like the school cafeteria during lunch time. The jocks and cheerleaders upfront, the tech geeks and loners at the back, gossip queens right in the centre, and the more normal ‘non-stereotyped individuals’ scattered all over.
Pinterest is like that (minus the nastiness). Cliques are formed already. When one visits the website, normal human tendency is to go straight for what grabs your interest. Say you’re into cooking; you can head directly to the ‘Food and Drink’ page. Here, there will be a gazillion pictures and videos for you to browse through.  If you like what you see, you can ‘Like’ them, or ‘Repin’ them so that others on your page can enjoy it as well.
  • If you run a business that could profit heavily from advertising via images/videos alone, then this is definitely the place to be. The template is clean and highly simple, making it all rather pleasing-to-the-eye.

Pinterest isn’t just convenient for those who are in the hunt for more information. It is also a boon for business owners…or people who are looking to earn some money.

  • First and foremost, if you are in fact keen on advertising your business, then ensure that you link your website to your Pinterest page. You can do so either by mentioning it on your Pin, or linking your images to it. This way, traffic gets directed to your site automatically.
Also, to prevent people using your images to their advantage, mention your name and contact details on it. That way, even if they do use your image, you still get the credit.
  • As mentioned earlier, Pinterest is absolutely ideal to sell your products. All you have to do is ensure you get a couple of good shots of it, and put it up for the world to see. Remember, to make the images and clips look highly appealing.
  • You could market your services by putting up images of your creations. Say, you’re a fashion designer. You could put up a few of your designs to intrigue the audience, and generate a following.
  • Make sure you target the right audience. As easy as it may be to find them on Pinterest, you need to ensure that you’re clear on those grounds as well. You don’t want to put all that invested time to naught…or more importantly, you don’t want to go offend anyone unknowingly.
  • If you want to make your page interactive, then you can hold competitions or contests that would keep your audience engrossed.
  • Put your SEO knowledge to good use. Simply by creating keywords in your page (by using a ‘#’ prior to the word), ones ‘Pins’ can appear on search engines. This can, again, direct a sect of people, directly to your page.
  • Pinterest allows one to share information on social networking sites. So you’re not only covering your audience on Pinterest, but also on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Increase your fan base by ‘Repinning’ others’ content. This way, they’ll do the same.
One ‘sure-fire’ way to get people talking about you is by ‘Repinning’ content that’s on the ‘Popular’ category. Since this already has a wide number of followers, you can target a whole lot of people instantly.
Remember to ‘Repin’ almost on a daily basis. The more ardent you are, the more the consumers.
  • Apart from advertising, you can also run a market survey on the audiences’ likes and dislikes. Not only in terms of your own Pins, but also what the general public is following. By narrowing down the list of current trends, you can easily stay on top of your game.
  • If you are an affiliate of a network, you could earn commissions from said company, by advertising their products and linking their websites. The more interest you drawn-in, the higher the commissions.

Pinterest’s immaculate appearance and user-friendly ways, has helped its popularity constantly rise. Social Networking sites have made marketing a whole lot easier, these days. Pinterest simply takes it from there, enhances it all the more, and gives us something that’s truly remarkable.
